Landmarks of Conservatism: Reagan's "A Time for Choosing"

Ronald Reagan's speech "A Time for Choosing" (video | transcript) delivered in support of Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign powerfully exposes the many failures of American liberalism. It's clearly one of Reagan's best, and it's just as relevant today as ever.

It's undeniably thrilling to listen to Reagan condemn excessive taxation, short-sighted pacifism, the welfare state, farm subsidies, Social Security, compulsory national health care, inflation, the U.N., wasteful foreign aid, and socialism. But for me, listening to this speech was not without sadness. As I listened, I came to the realization that our country will never elect a politician like this again.
